I’m Mo, and I like to write. I also ask a lot of questions. This curiosity informs my versatile and compassionate approach to storytelling.
I’ve built my career around mission-driven work that engages communities: digitally producing a summer concert series in New York City, developing a library of accessible mental health resources that helps patients understand their care options, blogging my Appalachian Trail thru-hike for a long-distance backpacking platform. See a sampling of my work here; let me know if you need the password.
Today, I work as a Communications Specialist for the University of Alaska Anchorage's Office of Research. My work spans the communications gamut, from developing social strategy for our research organizations, to designing and editing policy briefs, to documenting researchers in the field—from Oʻahu to Point Barrow.
Alongside my writing, I’ve directed and produced a number of short films. My award-winning documentaries have screened in the U.S. and internationally, appearing on The New Yorker and Short of the Week. These films have also been recognized by The Webby Awards, Edmonton International Film Festival, High Line Nine, and Oregon Documentary Film Festival, among others.
I’m currently based in Anchorage, but enjoy long-distance backpacking across the U.S. (see my travel blogs here) and swimming in Lake Michigan. ︎ Reach me at wynne.mrae@gmail.com.
